How We Source Data
All prices are fetched from established financial data providers and cached on our servers — we never modify or estimate prices.
| Source | Covers | Updates |
|---|---|---|
| TwelveData | Gold spot (XAU/USD) | Every 10 min |
| TwelveData | Silver spot (XAG/USD) | Every 10 min |
| ExchangeRate-API | GCC + Egypt official currency rates | Hourly |
| gold-price-today.com | Egypt goldsmith-dollar (parallel-market USD/EGP) — live Egypt prices only | Hourly |
How We Calculate Prices
We start from the international spot price per troy ounce (XAU for gold, XAG for silver, in USD) and convert it to the per-gram price in the local currency:
price per gram = (spot per oz ÷ 31.1035) × purity ratio × live FX rate
Purity ratios applied:
| 24K | 99.9% |
| 22K | 91.6% |
| 21K | 87.5% |
| 18K | 75.0% |
| 14K | 58.3% |
| 999 | 99.9% |
| 925 | 92.5% |
| 800 | 80.0% |
Weight units: 1 troy ounce = 31.1035 g · 1 tola = 11.664 g · 1 kilo = 1,000 g.
The prices shown are the live metal-content value. Physical jewelry and bars sell at a premium over this (making charges + dealer margin, higher on smaller bars), so these are indicative reference prices — not final dealer quotes.
Egypt specifically: goldsmiths price gold against the “goldsmith dollar” (the parallel-market USD/EGP), which sits slightly above the official bank rate. So on our Egypt gold pages we apply the goldsmith FX rate (sourced from gold-price-today.com) instead of the official rate, so prices match what the Egyptian market actually charges — clamped to a sane band, with an automatic fall back to the official rate if the source is unavailable. We apply the same rate to our historical price-trends pages too: the data is still our own recorded gold history, just converted at the actual market rate.
